Solar Panel Cleaning
Dust, salt, pollen, bird droppings and edge lichen can quietly cut a solar system's output by 5–25%. We clean panels with a purified water-fed pole system — no detergents, no minerals, no spotting, and no one walking on the array.
Overview
Solar panels are self-cleaning in theory — rain does some of the work. In practice, on the Sunshine Coast they collect a film of salt and pollen, bird mess that rain won't shift, and lichen creeping in from the frames. All of it shades cells and drops your generation.
We use purified (deionised) water fed through a pole with a soft brush head. Tap water leaves mineral spots as it dries; deionised water dries clear, so the glass actually stays cleaner. No abrasive pads, no harsh chemicals that can damage the anti-reflective coating.

The system
Our purified water-fed pole
Sunshine Coast tap and bore water carries dissolved minerals — and on glass, that's what causes calcification: the chalky, hard-to-shift scale that builds up on panels over repeated cleans and dulls the surface for good if it's left. Ordinary hose water always leaves some of it behind as it dries.
We run our final rinse through a purified, deionised water-fed pole — the water has virtually zero mineral content, so there's nothing left to dry as spots, streaks or scale. Combined with a soft brush head and no abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, panels are left with a genuinely spot-free finish, and the anti-reflective coating stays intact clean after clean.
How we do it
Our process
Access & isolate
Safe, harnessed roof access. We work around the array, never on the panels.
Pre-rinse
Loosen dust and bird droppings before brushing.
Wash
Soft brush and purified water fed through the pole — gentle on the glass and coating.
Pure rinse
Deionised water dries spot-free, so there's no towel-drying and no film left behind.
Report
Photos, plus a note of anything that needs your solar installer's attention.
Before / after — roof and panels cleaned in the same visit.
Good to know
Why purified water?
Normal water carries dissolved minerals that dry as a haze on the glass — effectively a film that keeps building. Deionised water has those minerals removed, so panels dry clear and stay clean longer between visits.
We only clean the glass surface. We don't do any electrical work or disconnect the system — there's no need to.
Pricing. Around $8–$12 per panel depending on access and condition, with a minimum call-out. Cheaper bundled with a roof wash or house wash. Free quote.
FAQ
Common questions
How often should panels be cleaned?
Every 12 months on the Sunshine Coast; every 6 months if you're near the coast, under trees, or getting a lot of birds.
Will cleaning really improve my output?
Usually yes — most noticeably where there's bird mess or edge lichen physically shading cells. Even a light film adds up across a big array.
Do you disconnect the system?
No. We clean the glass surface only and don't touch the wiring or inverter.
Can you do it while cleaning my roof?
Yes — it's the ideal time and saves a separate call-out fee.
